The ACT Government is responsible for providing accessible and responsive services for the Canberra community and consists of seven Directorates. The first sitting of the ACT Legislative Assembly was 11 May 1989 following the first election on 4 March 1989. The seventh and current Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory is Andrew Barr. The current head of the ACT Public Service is Kathy Leigh.
